Arcata to Willow Creek Run 12/04/10

December 04, 2010

Once again the weather gods teased us, but provided only a few sprinkles, and Arcata to Willow Creek remained one of the nation’s most venerable ultra marathon. Two folks, Dale Bagley and Jorge Matias (there were 18 finishers 30 years ago), crossed the finish line. Dale (5:46:03), became a repeat winner, considerably lowering his previous best. The Heroism Award, however, goes to Jorge (8:04:13). Recovering from recent surgery and with little recent training, Jorge kept up a steady pace and managed to complete the race. Now that’s the Willow Creek spirit! Bob Thompson, testing his knees for a potential 2011 run, ran to Redwood Creek in about 3:30. He says he’s ready to shoot for a ‘60’s record next year. Much thanks goes to David H, driver, Gary T, support driver, Angie M, support driver, Yoon K, photo and support driver, and Barry M, support. Hope to see folks next year for the 39’th Willow Creek run.
