What started out as a wet, heavy mist at 0700, turned out to be an overcast, but dry day, for an 0900 race in Friendly Fortuna. Kudos to Tami Beall for setting a PR in the 5K and First Female overall!! I have many whom I wish to acknowledge, and thank, for helping to make my first time as Race Director for the Fortuna Rodeo Run (FRR) 5K such a success, but first I want to thank Lanore Bergenske for her dedicated five years as FRR Race Director. I don't know how you did it, but you always made it look effortless, as everything ran flawlessly under your direction! Thank you for your guidance, inspiration, and passion for this race. Your ever-cheerful presence was missed!

This race would never have taken place, let alone flowed smoothly, without an awesome support system! Many thanks to Matthew Kidwell who started the permitting process for me and announced FRR on Facebook. Equally, many thanks to Paul Kraus for his lightening fast response time in finalizing all necessary paperwork for the permit and reassurance that there would, indeed, be a race, as well as his assistance with race day setup. Special thanks to Carla Kraus for coordinating the finish line/results board crew. Your expertise was invaluable! A Big thank you to club president, Gary Timek, for hauling gear from and to the shed in addition to setting up/breaking down the finish line area and timing the race! Thanks to Karen Kidwell for filling and hauling water jugs and to Rachel Cardoza, who assisted with both registration and finish line tabulations, which greatly assisted Yoon in posting timely and accurate race results. To Yoon Kim, I am greatly appreciative of all the amazing photos you took, especially the one of me with family and the speed with which you had both race results and photos posted online -- Thank You!! And speaking of race results, I am ever grateful to the Dynamic Duo, Brett and Tracy Johnson, for their dogged persistent in tracking down the error in bib pulls and correcting ALL the bibs that had been mismarked as a result!! Additionally, Many thanks to Tracy, who also worked registration. To my God Daughter, MacKenzie, and her Mom, Erin Wall, thanks so much for being the turnaround gatekeepers. To Sherry Myers, for arriving way early and assisting with setup and registration as well as staying to sell the cutest race charms, (including cowboy hats that represented FRR) And for your much-welcomed support -- my heartfelt thank you. To Marlene Allen, my mentor, my sincere gratitude for your ever-present "get'er done" attitude and willingness to listen and offer guidance. To my super trooper friend, Melissa Collins, who arrived at my house at 0645, with a killer migraine, to load the refreshments and then unload vehicles & setup at race -- You Rock! To my beloved niece, Cori Sisemore, who single-handedly managed the registration of my very large group and then worked the finish line pulling tags -- my sincere gratitude. To Jorge Matias, who coordinated an enthusiastic group to participate, it was a pleasure working with you, and I look forward to next year! Thanks to Holly Sage for photo submittals. A HUGE Thank You to my longtime friend, Kathleen May, who arrived at 0658 to setup, cut fruit, work registration, assist at the finish line, break down, haul trash, load vehicles, and unload at the shed -- your dependability is unsurpasssed. To coaches Josh Quintal & Jen Hayes and the FUHS Cross Country team, thank you for assisting FPD with safety and cheering on the participants. MANY thanks to Fortuna Police Chief Bill Dobberstein and the FPD for keeping participants, volunteers, and spectators safe before, during, and after the race! Additionally, MANY thanks to the City of Fortuna Public Works Department for coordinating road closures. A very special acknowledgement to Sheri Fowler, at Fortuna City Hall, for her assistance and kindness in explaining the permit process as well as Siana Emmons, who worked speedily to ensure a permit. Finally, I want to acknowledge and thank Shannon McWhorter and the Fortuna Rodeo Association for welcoming SRRC to be a part of the week long rodeo events and their donation of rodeo tickets for the raffle.
