Blue Lake 5K & 10K

Wow! What an
awesome turnout at the Blue Lake 5K and 10K! We had 133 participants! There were
35 more participants this year between the two races than last year. I’m sure
the great weather helped bring people out for a fun morning. Six Wildland
firefighters from an out-of-area Hotshot crew even showed up to race.
Unfortunately, they were called to yet another fire just before the start of
the race. (Thanks guys!)
For the second
year in a row, the City of Blue
Lake Parks and Recreation has co-sponsored with Six Rivers Running Club to make
this race a success. Kara coordinated
waiving of permit fees, advertising, extra cones, open bathrooms and cheerful Courtney to assist with anything we
needed. The City of Blue
Lake also coordinated with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office to
provide Deputy Scott to monitor
confusing intersections, check the course for runners after the event and
general safety. Thank you so much Blue Lake for helping make this race a
wonderful success! We look forward to continuing this partnership in the
future.
Thank you to
the Blue Lake Fish Hatchery for allowing us
to run on the property. It is a lovely place for the 10K turnaround.
Finally, we are
so thankful that we have wonderful volunteers to help with all of the little
aspects of the race. You might think your job is minor but we could not have a
successful race without you. Some of our volunteers were Reed Elmore, Mj Goble, Harry Kavich,
Yoon Kim, Paul Kraus, Brian Lee, Holly, Allan and Phyllis Scott, Tara
Strickwerda, Gary
Timek, and Tanya
Trump. There were several other people that helped clean the start/finish
area. Thank you for all your help.
A special
congratulations needs to extended to John Zinselmeir. His time of
39:26 in the 10K places him 59th IN THE WORLD for the 65 to 69 age group in a
10K road race! Thank you to Ken Young
