Master’s Race 10K

At this year’s Foggy Bottoms Race several people mentioned that there was a “Big Slide” on the Master’s course.

“No problem, I’ll check it out.” Unfortunately, it turned out to be the size of a two-story house; more of a dump truck and front-end loader job than my kind of shovel and wheel barrow project.

So … we changed the course and ran a double out & back towards Crannell. The start and finish were the same as usual and most runners were only mildly confused by the whole situation.

It was really nice standing around weather, but a little warm for the runners.

In the men’s race John Zinselmeir is bullet proof! Reed Richard ran the fastest time of the day but John still beat him by four minutes. The best race of the day: Bob Peck edged out Cyril Carl for third place and a spot on the Hobart Brown Trophy.

The women’s race was dominated by Lanore Bergenske who was the second overall finisher and now a three-time champion! Mary Wells and Tami Beall both ran very strong races for second and third.

None of our races would be possible without volunteers. Paul Kraus is the superman of volunteers. I can’t thank him enough for getting the permits, dealing with the road signs and helping with the timing, finish line and aid station! Thanks to Gary Timek for bringing Cindy who did a great job with the aid station and all the after-race snacks! Jack West helped with the finish line and timing and did it all in bike shoes. Charlie Lawrence and Gayle Patrice were out on the course to protect the runners. Adam Falk manned the turn-around and cheered everyone on. THANKS!
